SRI LANKAN SOYA MEAT CURRY

IMG_2312Who doesn’t love a delicious soya meat curry..?? It’s one of the famous vegan curry in Sri Lanka. There are plenty of soya meat brands with hundreds of flavours in Sri Lanka but do you know that you don’t need to use the spices mix that comes with the soya meat packet to create a wonderful and delicious curry. Use your own spices. Make your own version of the curry with the real taste and a good looking.  

When I’m in SL, its very rarely cook soya meat in our home.because we got plenty of seafoods as how we live near the fish market. My mom used to cook meat only on Sunday or any other special day. Some Sundays she cook soya meat for us. But  it’s only my sister who loves to eat soya meat. I just add few balls from the pot into my plate. And the rest was for her. My mother always skipped that tinny spices packet and she added her spices and cook the delicious soya meat curry. Her soya meat curry recipe is here, but wanna reveal our best soya meat version with you. She used to deep fry the cooked soya meat, squeeze out some gravy absorbed and deep fry. You’ll have the best appetiser ever. .

1.i got 90g soya meat. Place in a bowl and cover with hot water and leave around 10-15 minutes to soak and after that squeeze out the excess water absorbed and leave aside. 

2.heat a pot on medium heat and add 2-3tbs cooking oil. Once the oil is heated add finely sliced 1 small onion, sliced 2 garlic cloves, 2 split green chilies, some curry leaves, piece of pandan leaf and piece of cinnamon stick. Fry couple of minutes and let the aromatic release. 

3.add 1,1/4 tsp chilli powder, 1/4tsp turmeric powder, 1/2tsp curry powder and salt. Fry along with aromas around a minute. 

4.add the boiled and squeezed soya meat balls to the spices and give it to a good mix to coat well. 

5.add 1cup of coconut milk and stir, cook about 5-7 minutes, bring it to boil and sprinkle 1/2tsp black curry powder and mix well. Cook more 30 seconds and fire off.
